Alexandria is an Embodied Teaching Assistant for the 2024 Chicago SoulWork Summer Intensive.
Continuing her SoulWork journey from grad school, under the guidance of the method’s creator, Dr. Cristal Chanelle Truscott, Alexandria served as an Embodied Teaching Assistant (aka ETA) for the 2024 Chicago Summer Intensive. SoulWork is a comprehensive performance method created by Dr. Truscott that is rooted in generations-old African-American performance traditions. “SoulWork trains artists to engage the fullness of their identities to cultivate creative power through an inclusive, culturally responsive, socially-conscious studio practice.” ETAs are advanced SoulWork practitioners studying to become SoulWork facilitators. During the week-long summer intensive, Alexandria helped by being a living embodiment of the SoulWork Method’s principles and ethics. Alexandria Participates in her Hooding Ceremony at Northwestern University.
After receiving her degree last summer, on June 10th, 2023, Alexandria was finally able to participate in her MFA hooding ceremony at Northwestern University. For her, being a member of the inaugural cohort and experiencing all the things that a brand-new program has to offer was definitely a life-changing experience. She is forever grateful to her family, friends, professors, colleagues, and mentors who have helped her along this journey. She also is especially grateful and proud of her dog-son, Shadow Noir, who was with her every step of the way (he even attended a few classes), making him the first official MFA Acting dog at Northwestern. Check out the video below to see the moment when Alexandria was hooded by her professor Dr. Cristal Chanelle Truscott.
Alexandria Graduates with her M.F.A. in Acting.
As of September 2022, after the COVID-19 pandemic interrupted and changed Alexandria and her classmates’ grad school experience, Alexandria graduated with her M.F.A. in Acting from Northwestern University. This achievement makes her one of the first people to graduate from the program and one of the first Black women to graduate (an honor she shares with two other classmates). Alexandria is very grateful to Northwestern for giving her and her colleagues an extra year to complete their studies. She is looking forward to taking all she learned in school and applying it to her next artistic endeavor. Alexandria will officially walk and participate in the university’s M.F.A. hooding ceremony in June of 2023.
Alexandria Crawford Joins the First-Ever M.F.A. Acting Cohort at Northwestern University.
In September 2019, Alexandria will begin her graduate school journey as one of the members of the first M.F.A. Acting cohort at Northwestern University. Tony Award-winning director Anna D. Shapiro selected the new cohort of M.F.A. acting candidates with this opportunity awarding each student a full scholarship, stipend, and free healthcare for the duration of the program. Stan Brown heads the program, and the rest of the faculty (along with Shapiro and Brown) includes Dr. Cristal Channelle Truscott, Halena S. Kays, Sandra Marquez, and Roger Ellis. Alexandria is excited about this next chapter in her artistic journey and looks forward to seeing what it brings.
